A Celebration amongst Generations

Today is Mother's Day in Guatemala. We'll have a great party this morning for the mother's of our students with loads of festivity so, we dedicated yesterday to celebrating the "grandmothers" in our town. We visited the Sharing The Dream Elders' Center in Santiago Atitlan which provides hot lunches and health services to 65 elders in our community. Hugs, flowers, songs and stories were exchanged between the elders and our preschool students.

Friday Paseo

Fridays are fun days at La Escuelita Puerta Abierta. Last week, we visited Pueblo a Pueblo's community school garden in Panabaj.

Diego gave us a tour of the organic garden.

We saw radishes, cilantro and cabbage.

And learned that there are a variety of plants that we can eat!

Let your Garden Grow!

Angel and his companeros de La Escuelita planted their bean seeds two weeks ago. The seeds hang in our classroom window and every morning we visit our little plants to observe their growth. We also potted plants to take home with us during the Semana Santa vacation.

We're to give our little seeds lots of sunshine, rich soil and water.

Potted and ready to go home!

Seeds, seeds and more seeds!

Dinosaurs, Big and Small!

Dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes have been visiting La Puerta Abierta throughout the past weeks during our dinosaur exploration unit. We've painted dinosaurs, created play-dough houses for our dino friends, discussed their habitats and diets, read exciting dinosaur books, and engaged in creative dinosaur play.

Here are a few photos from our dinosaur fun!
