The Making of a Red Camioneta at La Puerta Abierta

Last Friday, our 18 students at La Escuelita Puerta Abierta took an imaginary trip to Guatemala City to sell all kinds of products from Santiago. Cary loaded the bus with cohetes, or fire works, Andy brought a basket of apples, Felipa packed up a basket of mangoes, and Juan was inspired to stuff a giant elephant into the camioneta.

Here we are on our viaje to Guatemala City in our red chicken bus!

A Special Visit from Nurse Kathy!

Enfermera Kathy visited La Escuelita Puerta Abierta today. She talked with us about healthy eating habits, the importance of hand washing, and the proper way to sneeze and cough so that we don't pass our germs. We also learned how to use a steth-o-scope and how to pronounce such a long word!

Friendship

In Guatemala we celebrate Dia de la Amistad or Friendship Day on the 14th of February (Valentine's Day,) a welcome adaption to the holiday when working with preschoolers:)

We made heart shaped art, hosted a "secret" friend letter exchange, read stories about friendship, and at circle time, we shared about what we like to do with our friends.
